I take a lot of photos of bread, don’t I? I’m not sure I can explain why. I think I used think I would never be a person who made bread. I guess I thought I was too inept? And it’s sort of like magic, isn’t it? Combining four simple ingredients that initially look like a mucky mess and you end up with a beautiful loaf of yum that everyone loves, it really feels like magic. And it smells good. Today I made a larger batch of my regular bread recipe, made two loaves like normal, plus a few bread sticks. Cinnamon bread sticks this time.

My mixer had didn’t do so well with the volume, the dough just sort of glommed onto the dough hook and wouldn’t mix the last cup or so of flour. I pulled the dough out of the bowl and just kneaded the last flour in by hand. It looked pretty nice when I was done.

My big bowl was really full after an hour of rising.

I made two regular loaves for sandwiches and such. The flour, by the way, is half whole wheat and half all-purpose.

Oh yes. I rolled 1/3 of the dough out, cut it into strips, each strip rolled and thinned out into a snake, then given a very thin layer of vegetable oil (recipe called for melted butter, but we’re out of butter, duh, the oil was fine) and a light sprinkling of cinnamon sugar, twisted, baked.
